101 Cats on Lancang Island Sterilized and Vaccinated against Rabies

The Seribu Islands Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Sub-agency, in collaboration with the Indonesian Veterinary Medical Association (PDHI) Jakarta Chapter, sterilized and administered rabies vaccines to 101 cats at the Ship Docking Area on Lancang Island, Pari Island Urban Village, Seribu Selatan Islands).

52 females and 49 males

Acting Head Section of Animal Husbandry and Health of the Sub-agency, Sandri Oktama said this activity targets both stray cats and residents' pet cats as an effort to safeguard animal health while simultaneously creating a healthy environment.

"A total of 101 cats were treated, consisting of 52 females and 49 males," he said, Friday (8/7).

He explained that this sterilization and rabies vaccination aims to boost the animals' immunity and prevent the spread of rabies.

"Through ongoing synergy, we hope to create an environment that is healthy, safe, and welcoming for both humans and animals. Controlling the cat population is also essential for maintaining animal welfare," he explained.

According to him, this service will continue to be rolled out on a rotating basis across the inhabited islands until the end of the year.

One of the residents, Nadhira (27), admitted that she was greatly helped by the routine sterilization and rabies vaccination services organized by the Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency.

"We do not need to bring our pets ashore to access this service. Moreover, the service is free," she admitted.
