Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung inspected the preparations for the inauguration of the Jakarta LRT and the trial run of the Velodrome-Manggarai line, Thursday (8/13). Pramono confirmed that all supporting facilities were ready to serve the public.

Nearly to 98 percent

Overall, the operational readiness of the Jakarta LRT has reached nearly 97.99 percent. The remaining work involves signaling systems at several locations, which is targeted for completion on August 20.

"Overall readiness currently stands at 97.99 perceny. So nearly to 98 percent. The only remaining work involves signaling at a few locations, but that will be completed by August 20," said Pramono.

The Jakarta LRT spans 12.2 kilometers, with a construction investment value of Rp 12.1 trillion. The Kelapa Gading–Manggarai route features 11 stations.

"We have just finished checking everything, and everything is ready for operation," Pramono added.

The Jakarta LRT enhances connectivity across three areas of the city namely North Jakarta, East Jakarta, and South Jakarta. The Jakarta Provincial Government plans to extend the LRT line to Dukuh Atas starting next year, with completion targeted for August 2028.

In the initial phase, the number of passengers on the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai LRT route is projected to gradually reach between 60,000 and 80,000 people per day. This LRT line will operate from 5 AM to 12 PM.

Regarding the fare, Pramono stated that the amount would be decided soon. The Governor stated that the development of Jakarta's transportation system would also continue.

Once the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai LRT route is operational, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to extend construction from Kelapa Gading to the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), as well as from the Velodrome to the Whoosh high-speed train station in Halim, East Jakarta.

"And once that has been done, I am confident that public transport users in Jakarta will increase significantly," he added.

According to Pramono, public transport usage rose by nearly 15 percent last month. This indicates a growing public awareness regarding the use of public transportation for mobility.

PT Jakarta Propertindo Director, Iwan Takwin, stated that the Jakarta LRT is designed to provide more modern and comfortable transportation facilities for the public.

"So, it is not just about building infrastructure but also developing the community. Behaviors will change as well, because people enjoy the benefits and feel at ease," he stated.
