Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has welcomed residents from Pati, Central Java, who plan to voice their aspirations in front of the Parliament (DPR) building in Central Jakarta.
Jakarta will remain safe and comfortable as long as we all play our part in maintaining it
However, he urged those participating in the protests to prioritize public order and security throughout the capital.
"Jakarta will remain safe and comfortable as long as we all play our part in maintaining it. Demonstrations are guaranteed by democracy, and we welcome those who wish to protest on the 26 or 27—feel free to do so," Pramono stated, at HKBP Menteng Church, Central Jakarta, Saturday (8/22).
Pramono Vows to Prioritize Jakarta’s Strategic DevelopmentHe clarified that the Jakarta government has no intention of banning demonstrations. However, he emphasized, the expression of public opinion must not be marred by anarchic acts or the vandalism of public facilities.
"What is strictly prohibited is causing damage, engaging in anarchy, or committing any form of misconduct," he asserted.
To ensure the situation remains stable, he has instructed the Jakarta Satpol PP to coordinate closely with the police to maintain security.
"I've already directed the Head of Satpol PP to work in tandem with the police to prevent any untoward incidents from occurring," he explained.
Jakarta is committed to a humane approach toward rallies, Pram affirmed. He lauded the cooperation of local community organizations in assisting protesters from Pati and preventing them from staying overnight in public spaces around the Parliament building.
"Organizations are facilitating them and guiding them not to camp out at the DPR/MPR. If an overnight stay in the city is necessary, we are ensuring they have the support they need," he closed.
