Channel Normalization in Cempaka Putih Barat to Complete in Late September

The normalization of a 387-meter-long water channel on Jalan Cempaka Putih Barat (CPB) IV, located in RT 07/RW 03, Cempaka Putih, which is being carried out by the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency's task force, is targeted for completion by the end of September.

Progress has currently reached over 36 percent

Head Section of Drainage Maintenance for Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency, Citrin Indriati explained her side deploys 11 personnel and one backhoe to work on the project.

"The work has been underway since July 9, and progress has currently reached over 36 percent, or approximately 141.2 meters," she said, Monday (8/31).

According to her, this normalization work follows up on residents' proposals, as the channel has narrowed and there are concerns it will be unable to handle peak water volumes during the upcoming rainy season.

"The channel is being widened using U-shaped concrete sections measuring 60 centimeters in width and 90 centimeters in height," she added.

One of the local residents, Wahyuningsih (38), appreciated the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency for responding to residents' complaints. She hopes that, following the normalization work, water flow will improve and the area will become more orderly.

"The old drainage channel is clogged with silt, frequently causing inundation when it rains," she admitted.
