Replacing Rafts, South Jakarta Initiates Inter-Village Bridge Project

The South Jakarta City administration is about to build an inter-village bridge connecting Ulujami in Pesanggrahan with Kebayoran Lama Utara.

Hope these efforts will pay off, especially when the rainy season arrives

This project aims to provide a safer and more convenient crossing for residents traveling between the two areas.

South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo stated that the bridge is essential because residents currently rely on makeshift rafts, or locally called getek to cross the Pesanggrahan River. This is dangerous, especially when water levels rise.

"We inspected the site to address community concerns regarding the lack of crossing facilities and the risk of river overflows. It is hazardous for residents to cross when the water is high, yet they continue to do so out of necessity," he expressed, Wednesday (9/2).

Syafrin hoped that the bridge linking Ulujami and Kebayoran Lama Utara would provide safer and more convenient access for those crossing the Pesanggrahan River.

"To provide proper infrastructure, the physical construction will be handled by the South Jakarta Bina Marga Sub-agency. We've coordinated the plans; the execution is now in their hands," he explained.

He is also taking proactive steps to prevent flooding and waterlogging caused by the overflow of the Pesanggrahan River in Ulujami and Kebayoran Lama Utara.

He noted that the South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency (SDA) is currently cleaning and dredging the river to improve its capacity and prevent floods.

"We're intensifying river dredging across the city during this dry season. Hope these efforts will pay off, especially when the rainy season arrives," he concluded.
