Jakarta, Guangzhou Explore Strategic Partnership in Water Management Technology

The Jakarta government continues to drive international cooperation in technology and urban service development. A key milestone in this initiative was the recent strategic meeting between Jakarta’s municipal water utility, PAM JAYA, and the Guangzhou Water Investment Group.

The meeting, facilitated by the Asian Trade, Tourism, and Economics Council (ATTEC), was attended by Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, Agency Head of Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs Agency (PPKUKM).

This high-level dialogue aims to bridge Jakarta-based enterprises and institutions with potential partners in Guangzhou, with a specialized focus on advancing water management technologies.

During the meeting, PAM JAYA highlighted its priority to secure strategic partners for the procurement of smart water meters, a key component of its initiative to modernize Jakarta’s water service infrastructure.

Strategy & Business at PAM JAYA Vice President, Siti Harni detailed the specific requirements and vast opportunities for collaboration in the smart metering sector.

In response, Guangzhou Water Investment Group expressed strong interest in exploring potential business ties and deepening cooperation with PAM JAYA.

Jakarta PPKUKM Agency Head, Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, lauded ATTEC for its role in bridging PAM JAYA with leading industry players from Guangzhou. This collaboration provides Jakarta with invaluable access to global innovation and best practices, driving the city’s mission toward modern public infrastructure.

“We're actively seeking strategic alliances that prioritize the transfer of technology and expertise. This meeting is an excellent platform for mutual learning in water utility modernization, including smart metering solutions and optimized water resource management,” she explained.

She noted that the exploration of this partnership is in full alignment with Jakarta’s transformation roadmap, which identifies urban water management as a top priority.

According to her, the implementation of smart metering technology holds the potential to significantly enhance monitoring accuracy, bolster operational efficiency, and mitigate water loss, specifically addressing Non-Revenue Water (NRW).

“We hope this meeting, facilitated by ATTEC, serves as a pivotal first step toward more concrete technical discussions between PAM JAYA and Guangzhou Water Investment Group,” she added.

The next phase of the partnership will focus on investigating technological facets and business models tailored for Jakarta’s smart meter needs. By leveraging ATTEC’s strategic network, the Jakarta government continues to open doors for global collaboration, aiming to elevate the city’s public services to world-class standards of efficiency and sustainability.

“Hope this dialogue transcends mere exploration. We look forward to seeing this evolve into deep-dive technical sessions and a robust knowledge exchange between PAM JAYA and the Guangzhou Water Investment Group, ultimately materializing into a landmark collaboration,” she concluded.
