Legislators Support Alternative Funding to Continue Jakarta LRT Construction

Chairman of Commission D of the Jakarta City Council, Yuke Yurike, supports the use of alternative funding sources to continue the development of the Jakarta LRT until it is integrated with various other modes of public transportation.

Central government can help through Danantara

One financing alternative that can be used is regional bonds through non-regional budget funding schemes. She hopes the central government can provide support through Danantara.

LRT Project to Dukuh Atas is Targeted for Completion in 2028

"We hope the central government can help through Danantara," she said, Friday (9/18).

According to Yuke, funding certainty is necessary to ensure that LRT network development doesn't stop at one point but can continue, connecting with various transportation hubs. This intermodal integration is expected to make it easier for people to switch from one transportation service to another.

She added that integration could include LRT, MRT, KRL, Transjakarta, JakLingko, and even high-speed rail. Connectivity in strategic areas like Manggarai and Dukuh Atas, she continued, would further strengthen public mobility.

"If all of that were connected, it would be really nice. People would definitely be more willing to take the train," she added.

Yuke is optimistic that the target of extending the LRT to Dukuh Atas by 2028 can be achieved. However, he emphasized the importance of securing funding to ensure the LRT's construction doesn't stop at Manggarai.

"We also need to be optimistic. That's why we really hope that alternative financing options like bonds will be approved. That's one alternative that can solve development issues and get things moving," she continued.

Manggarai enjoys a strategic location as it serves as the intersection of various railway lines. If the LRT is integrated into the area, connectivity to other modes of transportation, such as the airport train and the MRT, will be strengthened.

"A hub in Manggarai is a must. Manggarai now has rail connections everywhere. It just needs to be connected to the LRT," she stated.
