Hundreds of Young Athletes Participate in the PBSI North Jakarta Badminton Championship

A total of 308 young athletes from 25 badminton associations participated in the North Jakarta PBSI Badminton City Championship 2026 to compete for the local Mayor's Cup.

This championship will take place on September 21-23, 2026 at the North Jakarta Youth Center (GRJU), Jalan Yos Sudarso, Kebon Bawang Urban Village, Tanjung Priok District.

Vice Mayor of North Jakarta, Fredy Setiawan said the championship is not just an arena for competition, but also part of the process of developing athletes from an early age.

"Athletes must compete seriously, uphold honesty and sportsmanship, and respect their opponents and the referee's decisions," he said, Monday (9/21).

He reminded the participants not to be afraid of defeat and not to be complacent when they win. Every match result is part of a continuous process of development.

He also appreciated the coaches, mentors, parents, clubs, and all parties who consistently support the development of badminton athletes in North Jakarta.

"We hope that this event can produce potential athletes who are able to achieve success at the national and international levels and bring honor to the name of North Jakarta, Jakarta, and Indonesia," he hoped.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the North Jakarta PBSI City Championship 2026 Organizing Committee, Ricky Gunawan, explained that 308 participants take part in the singles and doubles events.

There are 19 age groups competing, starting from the pre-school category under nine years old to the cadet group under 19 years old.

"This division provides space for athletes to compete according to their age level while honing their competitive skills and mentality from an early age," he explained.
