South Jakarta PMI Provides Post-Disaster Health Education in NTT

The South Jakarta Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) provided health education to children who survived the disaster in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Practice clean living behavior

Head of South Jakarta PMI, Mundari said that this activity was carried out as a strategic effort to increase health knowledge and awareness amidst environmental conditions that have changed post-disaster.

Standing with NTT, Jakarta Provides Rp 5.8 Billion to Support Earthquake Recovery

"The series of activities has been ongoing since September 15, 2026, at several priority locations. One of them is centered in Aeramo Village and the Wolorae Christian Elementary School (SDK) in Aesesa District," he said, Tuesday (9/22).

Mundari explained that the implementation of this health promotion program was made possible thanks to the full support of various international organizations and partners in the global humanitarian movement, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

"We are also present with the Australian Red Cross, the American Red Cross, and the Japanese Red Cross," he explained.

According to him, this program also involves synergy between local PMI volunteers and specialist volunteers brought in specifically from various regions, including Jakarta Province and Bali.

The educational materials are comprehensively designed to prevent a post-disaster disease surge. Key topics covered include implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS), practicing the six steps of proper handwashing with soap, being aware of bites from rabies-transmitting animals (GHPR), and rabies prevention.

"We also provide education related to the prevention and early treatment of diarrhea, Acute Respiratory Tract Infections, and Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever," he added.

The volunteers use fun and interactive educational methods. The material is delivered through songs, educational dice games, and hands-on field practice.

"Through this health promotion, children are invited to see, remember, understand, and practice clean living behavior in their daily lives," he stated.
