Cipinang Melayu Residents Receive Free Health Checks

A total of 100 residents underwent a free health check (CKG) at the RW 11 Secretariat in Cipinang Melayu Urban Village, Makasar District, East Jakarta. The event, held by the Makasar District Community Health Center, also served as a tuberculosis (TB) screening.

The examining doctor at the Makasar District Health Center, Aditya Kusuma Cahyaliarta, said that the CKG service was implemented using a door-to-door system to reach people who needed health checks without having to go to health service facilities.

"We're integrating this free health check service with TB screening. The goal is to identify TB sufferers who may be around us or who have been ill but haven't reported it," he said, Tuesday (9/29).

According to him, of the 100 residents who attended the event, the majority were elderly. Furthermore, some of those in attendance had a history of contact with TB patients and were therefore invited to participate in free screening.

"This screening is important to find TB cases as early as possible, including in residents who have not experienced symptoms or are not aware of a history of TB in their environment," he added.

If the examination results show that a resident is positive for TB, then the person concerned will receive free treatment through a government program.

"If the patient experiences a cough, fever for more than two weeks, shortness of breath, chest pain, weight loss, or decreased appetite, then they are categorized as suspects and a sputum examination using TCM is recommended," he continued.

The results of the examination will be informed via WhatsApp or confirmed directly with the Community Health Center officers.

The person in charge of the Makasar District TB Program, Dr. Kartika Destya, explained that the main targets for screening are residents who are suspected of having household contact with the index patient.

She stated that in RW 11, Cipinang Melayu Urban Village, there are three index patients, all of whom were invited to participate. To meet the target of 100 participants, officers also invited residents suspected of having close contact with TB patients, including neighbors and close relatives.

"For children's examinations, we carry out the Mantoux test, while for adults, we carry out the molecular rapid test or POC for TB screening," she said.

Meanwhile, one of the participants, Vita Febrianti (36) admitted in addition to having a history of close contact with a TB patient, Vita was also experiencing a cough. During the visit, she underwent several tests, including blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, as well as a TB screening.

"Hopefully local health services such as CKG and TB screening can continue to be implemented so that it is easier for people to get health checks and treatment early on," she hoped.
