Munjirin explained that the mud thickness at the location is estimated to reach 1.5 to 2 meters, so dredging will take quite a long time.
"We're taking advantage of this dry season to drain or dredge sediment. This activity is routinely carried out every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday in various areas of East Jakarta," he explained.
Meanwhile, City Secretary of East Jakarta, Eka Darmawan, explained the mud cleanup activity in the Sunter River involved around 200 joint personnel.
"We also continue to invite the public to help maintain environmental cleanliness, especially the water channels that have been cleaned," he explained.
Head of the Makasar District Water Resources Implementation Unit, Nurdin, stated that his team deployed four pieces of heavy equipment to support the dredging work. The equipment consisted of two amphibious heavy equipment units and two mini excavators.
"The dredged sediment is approximately 150 centimeters thick, with a dredging area of ​​approximately 200 x 10 meters. The work is targeted for completion within three months," he stated.
Meanwhile, Head of RW 09, Cipinang Melayu Urban Village, Sunarjo appreciated the mud cleanup activity.
"Our area has not flooded since 2013," he admitted.
