Fire Guts Two Buildings on Jalan Drompol

A fire gutted two homes on Jalan Drompol in Kayu Putih Urban Village, Pulo Gadung Sub-district, East Jakarta, Monday (10/5).

Suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, the blaze quickly escalated, destroying two houses spanning an estimated 300-square-meter plot.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency's Operation Section Head Abdul Wahid stated that the fire was reported at 10:37 AM.

"We immediately dispatched 10 fire engines and 50 firefighters to the scene," he expressed, Monday (10/5).

Upon the personnel's arrival at 10:41 AM, the fire was already raging, leading them to launch emergency suppression measures immediately, he explained.

"The fire was completely extinguished by 12:26 PM. During the operation, our personnel evacuated two elderly victims, both of whom were found dead," he explained.

He added that the fire is now under further investigation by the Pulo Gadung Sectoral Police.

Meanwhile, Kayu Putih Urban Village Head Tuti Sugihastuti, reported that four households comprising 25 individuals survived the blaze.

"We are deeply grateful to the firefighters who acted so swiftly to extinguish the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to neighboring buildings," she admitted.

He confirmed that assistance for the fire survivors has already been coordinated with the East Jakarta Social Sub-agency, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), Baznas Bazis, and East Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).

"This assistance will undoubtedly be disbursed swiftly to help meet the basic needs of the fire survivors," he stated.
