Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung called on young people to play an active role in safeguarding and shaping the city's future.
As the nation's future leaders, you are responsible for maintaining and safeguarding it
Pramono said the development achievements and social harmony built over the years would not last without the involvement of younger generations, who would eventually become the leaders responsible for sustaining Jakarta's progress.
Jakarta's Youth Encouraged to Understand InvestmentHe made the remarks while attending the Jakarta Youth Aspirations Workshop-Kawula17 Goes to School, at Balairung Hall, Jakarta City Hall, on Monday (10/26).
"My children, you are all responsible for taking care of what has been built. As the nation's future leaders, you are responsible for maintaining and safeguarding it," Pramono said.
He said the development transformation being pursued by current leaders needed to be sustained so that it could deliver maximum benefits to the public.
He cited ongoing efforts to improve and expand public facilities, including public transportation services and green open spaces.
At the event, Pramono also outlined various development programs undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government, including flood management, expanded public transportation services, waste management, and efforts to reduce air pollution.
"I have decided that by 2030, all buses operating in Jakarta must be electric buses. Second, starting this year, we will build three waste-to-energy power plants in Jakarta," he said.
Pramono expressed confidence that Jakarta would develop into a better, more inclusive, and more comfortable city under leaders with strong character and creativity.
"Whether it's Jakarta, another city, or any country, if it has a leader who can orchestrate efforts to make the city better, more beautiful, and more comfortable, its residents will certainly feel comfortable," he said.
