The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency has completed repairs on a 100-meter-long breakwater in the eastern waters of Panggang Island, Panggang Island, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.
The 100-meter repairs were executed progressively from October 28
Seribu Islands Coastal Protection and Development Section Head Wahyu Maulana explained that heavy swells in late October compromised the breakwater, dislocating and toppling several heavy concrete armoring blocks.
“The 100-meter repairs were executed progressively from October 28 by mobilizing seven personnel, and was finalized yesterday,” he expressed, Friday (11/6).

He emphasized that the breakwater serves as a primary buffer to safeguard coastal resilience, mitigating the kinetic energy of tidal surges that could erode the shoreline and imperil local neighborhoods.
“This work is integral to coastal infrastructure maintenance. Simultaneously, we are intensifying mangrove planting initiatives to bolster nature-based coastal protection,” he explained.
This repair received appreciation from the Panggang Island Urban Village Head Jamaluddin.
He explained that the breakwater on the eastern side of Panggang Island is a crucial piece of infrastructure protecting residential settlements from coastal erosion and tidal flooding (rob).
“This swift response provides peace of mind for the coastal community, especially given the strong winds over the past few days. We also urge residents to promptly report any damage to coastal defense infrastructure,” he concluded.
