Pondok Indah Market, New Muslim Clothing Trade Center

PD Pasar Jaya continuously revitalizing traditional markets to be able to compete with modern markets that are growing rapidly. One of the traditional markets which just revitalized is Pondok Indah Market, Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta.

Pondok Indah Market was previously slum and muddy every time rain poured. Now, it has transformed into a market with modern concept. The market, which finished revitalized in January 2014, will be the trade center of Muslim clothing.

Pasar Manggis Targeted to Be Finished Prior to Eid ul Fitr

According to Rukino, 70 percent of total 90 kiosks on ground floor have been booked by vendors selling Muslim clothes and jewelry. Overall, the market is three-story with approximately 300 kiosks, not including the existing market on the basement with 119 kiosks and 60 stalls.

“For the existing market, it operates from 03.00 AM because at 05.00 AM many people are already shopping. We keep doing socialization to change the habit of old traders to maintain hygiene,” he told.

Zone pattern is applied in Pondok Indah Market. The basement is for staples, vegetables, meat, and fish sales, the ground floor is for Muslim clothing and jewelry sales, the second floor is for clothes and other business, and the third floor is a for food court as well as electronics and mobile phone trade center.

Although up until now there have not been a lot of trading activities except vegetables and meat commodity, Pondok Indah Market management is still trying to promote this newly refurbished traditional market.

“We’ve made publication and held gymnastics on every Sunday morning. We will also plan to provide a place for people who want to hold Qur’an recital, so at least they would know there are good stuff here,” uttered Rukino.
