A number of Marunda Flat units in Clincing, East Jakarta are rented by some Indonesia Merchant Marine Academy (STIP) students. The adjacent location to the campus has made them interested to rent the flat units with only Rp 1.5 million until Rp 2 million per month.
STIP should propose flats for its students to city administration so that students who are not accommodated in dorm can stay in flat
North Jakarta Mayor, Heru Budi Hartono, was upset with this since Marunda Flat is designated for city residents who were struck with development program and cannot be lease-over to other parties, including STIP students.
“To prevent lease-over practice recurs, STIP should propose flats for its students to city administration so that students who are not accommodated in dorm can stay in flat,” said the former Bureau Head of City KDH and KLN, Wednesday (5/7).
City Has Fulfilled Residents’ Basic NeedsAccording to Hartono, flat facilities inside STIP can add city income that comes from student rental fee. “The flat should not locate outside campus, because they can compete with residents. Moreover, students can also be monitored directly,” he stated.
Meanwhile, STIP Assistant I Chairman, Bambang Sumali acknowledged that 1,600 STIP students are exceeding dorm quota. Even so, the campus is still banning the students to rent flat units.
