Dozens of Parents Demand Their Youngster's Safety at STIP

Around 15 parents of 1st semester students visited the Indonesian Merchant Marine Academy (STIP), Marunda, North Jakarta, Monday (4/28). They asked the STIP management to follow up on the death of one student, Dimas Dikita Handoko (19), who was allegedly beaten to death by his schoolmates on Friday (4/25).

Based on the information gathered, the parents arrival aimed to request the guarantee for the safety of their youngster in academy. The academy was also asked to hold a private meeting for 2.5 hours.

Yet, they did not give any comment about their arrival to the STIP campus in Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta. The reason is, they are concerned about the safety of the children in the academy.

Likewise with STIP management, where they were reluctant to explain details of the meeting with the parents. They only tell the meeting discussed the follow-up of the academy and evaluation of post-death Dimas.

"We only discuss about mutual interests. In the meeting, we also asked for input from the parents," said Head of STIP Household Sub-Division, Heru Widada, Monday (4/28).

Widada disclosed that the parents are mostly from Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi areas. "They also ask for contact 550 other parents to join in the next meeting. We also allow them to talk with media," he uttered.
