Trees in West Jakarta Trimmed to the Ground without Permission

As many as 10 shade trees on Jalan Outer Ring Road, Kembangan, West Jakarta, precisely along Cengkareng towards Puri Indah, were trimmed without permission. It is alleged that the trees trimming was done for apartment construction purpose. It is very unfortunate that the 60-centimeter diameter and 10-meter high trees, which previously provide comfort for road users, now trimmed to the ground.

I will check (to the locations). If it’s true, we’ll give sanction according to the rules applied

This unpermitted trees trimming has been happening since the last two weeks. Unfortunately, West Jakarta Parks Sub-Department has not taken action against the apartment construction project developer.

Residents Protested Dozens of Trees Trimmed to the Ground

Trees trimming without permission in the municipality also happened on Jalan Meruya Utara, RT 04/04, Meruya Utara Urban Village, Kembangan Sub-District. There, four angsana trees with 60-centimeter diameter and 10-meter height in front of State Elementary School (SDN) 01 and 02 were trimmed to the ground this morning by unidentified perpetrator.

Also, on Jalan H Saaba, RT 02/02, Merayu Utara Urban Village, where three angsana trees as wide as more than 60 centimeters and 15 meters tall were trimmed to the ground.

Responding this matter, Head of West Jakarta Parks Sub-Department Green Belt Section, Kadirun, admitted that his party has yet known any trees trimming action on Jalan Outer Ring Road, Jalan H Saaba, and Meruya Utara.

“Ideally, tree trimming is only cutting the tree’s trunks and leaving it for at least seven meters long. Therefore, I will check (to the locations). If it’s true, we’ll give sanction according to the rules applied,” he stated, Wednesday (5/7).

According to Kadirun, his party only allows trimming for trees that are old, bushy, and jeopardizing people’s lives. West Jakarta Parks Sub-Department itself has trimmed 1,000 trees along January-May this year and 1,132 trees in 2013.
