Interaction between Teachers and Students Must Be Improved

North Jakarta Mayor, Heru Budi Hartono, stated that learning and teaching process will be effective as long as communication and interaction between teachers and students conducted intensively. Teachers can design learning models, thus students can learn optimally.

According to him, through such way, teachers could also know the condition of their students, both physical health and mental health. “When the students were in front of the class, it can be seen whether they sick or not. We could even tell if they had domestic problems,” he said.

Moreover, Hartono reminded that in their interaction with students in class, teachers should prioritize the students who are Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) recipients. So, it can be known whether the subsidies given through the KJP used in accordance with the students’ need or not.

“Don’t let a KJP recipient student had a torn uniform or shoe answered they don’t have money to repair it because their father used the KJP money to buy cigarettes. That is dangerous,” he asserted.

The interaction pattern also must be done routinely every morning before the learning and teaching process begins. Japan has applied this kind of habit. “In Japan, the habit is applied from school to work, and the result is very real. They are always happy with what they do, either at school or at home,” told Hartono.

Neneng, a Principal of State Elementary School (SDN) 01 Tugu Utara, acknowledged that the interaction habit done before the learning and teaching process begins really helps the teachers to understand their students. On the other hand, the students are also happy because their desires could be delivered directly to the teachers. “They are happy because they can tell anything they want to us,” she disclosed.
