City KPU Announces Elected Legislative Candidates Today

Although it is still being overshadowed by a number of legislative election (pileg) fraud allegations reported by a number of candidates to the Jakarta Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Jakarta General Election Commission (KPU) plans today, Monday (5/12), to announce 106 elected candidates who will sit on the City Council.

One party could get two or one seat in the regional election

“Indeed, today is the determination process of elected candidates. The determination started with BPP (divisor voters),” said Sumarno, Head of City KPU, Monday (5/12).

According to Sumarno, the BPP formulation is a phase to determine the elected candidate and to obtain the number of seats for each political party participating in the election. There will be 106 City Council legislative candidates that will be announced today.

Delayed, Vote Counting Recapitulation Moved to KPU office

KPU coordinates with City Bawaslu in determining the elected candidates since there were violations reported by a number City Council candidate. “So we coordinate with City Bawaslu to handle those reports of the candidates,” said Sumarno.

He also added that the votes obtained by each party are not correlated with the number of seats obtained by each party. Meanwhile the seat determining is seen by the obtained votes in each regional election, and one seat in the election is determined by BPP, while BPP is determined by the number of valid votes divided by the number of seats allocated. “One party could get two or one seat in the regional election,” Sumarno explained.

When the seat for the party determined BPP is less than the allocation of seats, the remaining seats will be divided again based on the highest vote remaining of each party. “If two seats are left in one regional election, the two seats will be handed to the two highest parties,” he added.

Even though every party has counted the number of the obtained seats, the legitimate provision is determined by City KPU calculation and provision. Based on information from the City Council, Hanura, Demokrat and PPP get the same number of seats, although their votes are different. These three parties get 10 seats and compete for 2 positions of City Council Vice Chairman.

Meanwhile the City Council Chairman obtained by PDIP, while Gerindra and PKS are assured to get the City Council Vice Chairman position. The top three parties are PDIP, Gerindra, and PKS.
