The appeal of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to regional governments not to disburse the social aid and grant funds before the 2014 presidential election leads to the postponement of playground facilities and infrastructures construction in West Jakarta. As a result, the effort of West Jakarta Administration to make its jurisdiction as a child-friendly city becomes hampered.

“ Now we’re still waiting for Jakarta Provincial Government’s instruction in accordance to KPK’s decision that the social aid and grant funds cannot be disbursed yet,” stated Head of Community Development Sub-Section for West Jakarta Family Planning and Women Community Empowerment Office (BPMPKB), Muchtar, Friday (5/23).

According to Muchtar, BPMPKB budget is very low. Thus, to realize West Jakarta as a friendly city for children in 56 urban villages and 8 sub-districts, it must involve the Sub-District Leaders Forum (LMK). Moreover, LMK’s social aid and grant funds are all this time only used for repair works of roads and water channels.

“Child-friendly city becomes a priority this year. As many as 94 cases of violation against children have happened, thus it can be said that West Jakarta is categorized as a prone zone against children violation. Prevention steps are needed, namely socialization about legal rules and children playground public facility,” he uttered.
