Tipar Cakung Flat Rent Arrears Reaching Rp 600 Million

Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Building Department threatens to empty hundreds of units in Tipar Cakung Low Cost Flat (Rusunawa), East Jakarta. The treat is addressed to flat occupants who have not pay rent even up to hundreds of million rupiah. According to the data, 27 occupants have been in arrears since 2009 or more than 50 months. From those 27 flat units, the arrears are predicted reaching Rp 600 million.

Head of Region III Flats Management Unit for Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Building Department, Jefyodya Julyan, said the arrears of Tipar Cakung Flat are relatively high than other flats in Jakarta. He revealed that as many as 390 families have not paid pay the rent of their units for Rp 300-500 thousand.

“The longest arrears of those 390 families’ are 50 months. We already give them stern warning. If they did not pay it, we’ll empty their units. If this thing goes on, the amount of loss will be bigger,” he stated, Thursday (5/29).

12 Units of Marunda Flat Unloaded

According to Julyan, especially for the arrears of 27 Tipar Cakung Flat units, they will be controlled starting from next June. The control will involve 50 joint personnel from Satpol PP, TNI, and the police. Those units will be forcibly emptied, because it reflects the occupants have no good intention to meet obligations in paying the rent.

“There is an arrear reaching Rp 20 million per unit. This cannot be tolerated anymore. They do not have good intention to pay the rent and must be sanctioned by getting them out of the flat. They are in arrears because they do not want to pay the rent. Whereas, some of them are people who have luxury cars,” he disclosed.
