Kampung Sawah Residents Having Difficulty in Getting Water

The residents in Kampung Sawah, Semper Timur Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, North Jakarta, are having difficulty in getting water because the tap water managed by PAM is disrupted since three months ago. As a result, they had to use well water which quality is not so good, buy water from neighbor village, and accommodate rain water to fulfill their need for water.

All this time I use rainwater which accommodated in buckets placed on top of the house,” said Ibrahim, a resident of Kampung Sawah, RT 05/11, Tuesday (6/3).

Although the tap water is not running since three months ago, Ibrahim admitted that he and more than 200 families (KK) in Kampung Sawah still have to pay the water bill every month. This condition is obviously very burdensome for the residents, because besides have to pay bill, they also had to spend money to buy water in the neighbor village.

“Sometimes it costs us Rp 20,000-Rp 30,000,” he told.

According to Ibrahim, the residents have informed this matter to PT Aetra as PAM water management. The company is expected the resolve this matter and also to add more pipes to the region.

“I ask to make it easier, because fasting month is coming. We also requested more pipes to water our region,” he expressed.

Responding this matter, PT Aetra Corporate & Communication Manager, Rika Anjulika, explained that the water disruption happens because her party is currently revitalizing the pipes distributing water to the region. The repair takes a long time because of low soil condition, thus precision and patience are needed in the working process. However, the disruption of water flow to Kampung Sawah will not be long.

“We try to flow the water back as soon as possible. It takes two weeks at least to get the residents in Kampung Sawah not having difficulty anymore in getting water,” she stated.
