Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Dept Needs More Personnel

Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department is lacking off personnel. As a result, many programs cannot be implemented well, such as controlling illegal parking and public transports that are parking haphazardly.

Until now, the department only has 75 personnel who are working in the field. This amount is clearly not enough to supervise and discipline the violations happen in eight sub-districts in Central Jakarta.

“We are always overwhelmed to response citizens’ complaints, such as illegal parking and public transports parking haphazardly,” told Head of Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Syamsudin, Wednesday (6/4).

According to Syamsudin, in controlling Tanah Abang area, his department set up two posts in front of Tanah Abang Blok F, or next to Jati Bunder ex-fire department building, and next to Block B on Jalan KH Mas Mansyur. Each post is settled by 14 officers.

“That amount is clearly not enough if compared to vehicles growth and the complexity of problems in Tanah Abang. Ideally, 150 additional personnel are needed. If only half of it realized, I think it is already helpful,” he stated.

Similar statement is also conveyed by Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department Officers Coordinator for Tanah Abang area, Firmansyah. He admitted often got overwhelmed in dealing with the attitudes of public transport drivers who often park their vehicles haphazardly.

“If there was personnel addition, it will be very helpful,” he said.
