City to Apply Per Kilometer Payment Rate

To improve a well-arranged transportation system in the capital city, Jakarta Provincial Government is formulating per kilometer payment rate for bus operators such as Kopaja and Metromini to avoid drivers’ bad habit by parking haphazardly to get passengers which leads to traffic congestion.

With this way, PT TransJakarta can ask transportation enterprises to work together. The concept can be easier if it is counted per kilometer

Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama is optimistic that such habit can vanish by implementing per kilometer payment rate.

Transjakarta Night Service Launched on June 1

“The payment will be taken from the City Budget (APBD) that will be paid to PT TransJakarta management and will be distributed to medium-sized bus operators. We will implement this system in 2016,” he stated, Monday (6/2).

According to Basuki, PT TransJakarta as a city-owned enterprise (BUMD) is prepared as a medium for all public transportation operators in the capital city to improve optimal bus services.

“PT TransJakarta is currently preparing 7-20 minutes minimum standard services in the bus stops, and 30 minutes for late night services,” he told.

To reach the goal, Jakarta Provincial Government will allocate public service obligation (PSO) fund for PT TransJakarta that is counted based on minimum operational budget of time between two TransJakarta buses which arrived in a bus stop (headway).

With this way, PT TransJakarta can ask transportation enterprises to work together. The concept can be easier if it is counted per kilometer,” uttered Basuki.
