Karet Baru TransJakarta Bus Stop Officially Operates

After being tested out on May 27, the operational of Karet Baru TransJakarta Bus Stop is finally inaugurated and handed over by PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Jakarta to Jakarta Transportation Department, Friday (6/6). This bus stop replaces Setiabudi and Karet Lama bus stops which have been closed down because their locations were right on the line of underground MRT construction.

The important thing is there is no resistance from the passengers against this transition. From what I see, the passengers feel comfortable because this bus stop is wider and longer

“Since we have to dig to build the (MRT) station, like it or not those two bus stops had to be closed down,” stated PT MRT Jakarta Director, Dono Boestami.

June 4, 2 Transjakarta Bus Stops Shut Down

The Karet Baru Bus Stop, which built starting April 2014, is longer than the old bus stop. With length of 45 meters and width 5 meters, it has six doors on each side and wide open design, thus the air flow is better. The passenger’s onboard-offboard doors are also only one meter high, which is different to the old bus stop that height was about two meters.

According to Boestami, Karet Baru Bus Stop is built to smooth TransJakarta bus operational. Besides Karet Lama and Setiabudi bus stops, HI Roundabout Bus Stop also has been closed down for the same reason. Other bus stops that will be affected by MRT construction are Senayan and City Police bus stops which will be shifted their positions, as well as Tosari and Sarinah bus stops that will be built larger.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Benyamin Bukit, admitted pleased with the replacement of Karet Lama Bus Stop due to its wider design. His department also positively welcomes the efforts of PT MRT Jakarta in building the rail-based mass transportation.

“Principally, Jakarta Transportation Department fully supports, because this is the consequence of MRT construction where there are bus stops need to be closed down. The important thing is there is no resistance from the passengers against this transition. From what I see, the passengers feel comfortable because this bus stop is wider and longer,” he uttered.

In addition, Bukit reminded that the two bus stops which have been closed down must be erased from city’s assets data in Jakarta Financial Management Body (BPKD), and the replacement bus stop recorded as a new asset.
