Hundreds of Motorcycles Caught in Fire in Cilincing

Fire destroyed a motorcycle warehouse on Jalan Tipar Cakung, RT 04/05, Sukapura, Cilincing, North Jakarta, Sunday (6/8). Inside the warehouse, fire also burned 300 motorcycles in various brands which ready to be shipped. There is no casualty reported in the incident, but the loss suffered is predicted more than Rp 3 billion.

Roy (42), a local, said the fire broke out at around 11.20 PM. At first, he and other residents were surprised with thick smoke coming from the warehouse which located right behind their settlement. “We saw the fire enlarged in the warehouse. We’re worried it would reach our settlement. So we tried to put out the blaze with available tools, but failed,” he uttered.

Not long after, 15 fire trucks from North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire within one hour. “We’re still cooling down the scene. We don’t know yet know how much the loss. But from the burned motorcycles, the loss is over Rp 3 billion. Not to mention the burned building,” stated Head of North Jakarta Fire and Disaster Handling Sub-Department Operational Section, Muchtar Zakaria.

Meanwhile, a policeman at the scene, Aiptu Supangat, informed that a local named Mardani is injured when trying to put out the blaze. He suffers injuries on the head and right arm, and has been rushed to Koja General Hospital. “We’re still investigating the cause of fire. Based on the information, the fire was triggered by sparks from electric welding,” he told.
