Pemprov DKI Akan Sewa Truk Pengangkut Sampah

City to Rent Garbage Trucks

The operational hours is imposed because garbage truck can cause traffic congestion, spread rotten smell and so on. Thus truck can only pass Bekasi areas at night

Jakarta Provincial Government plans to rent garbage trucks from third party in an effort to optimize waste transportation. This is because Jakarta still lacks garbage trucks and needs 700-900 trucks to transport waste reaching 6,500 tons per day.

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama explained truck rental is conducted for the addition of truck fleet from five areas to the Bantar Gebang Landfill. This is because Bekasi Administration has imposed operational hours for big truck at night.

City Gets 53 Garbage Trucks from PERHIT

"The operational hours is imposed because garbage truck can cause traffic congestion, spread rotten smell and so on. Thus truck can only pass Bekasi areas at night," he expressed.

He acknowledged most garbage trucks owned by Jakarta government were grounded by Bekasi Transportation Department due to violate the operational hours rules. "Supposedly, the truck should transport waste at night and then disposed to Bantar Gebang Landfill," he stated.

Hence, Basuki would prepare janitors in the field and provide supporting infrastructure, such as street light in the streets. "For fleet, we use a self-managed system. Therefore, we rent garbage trucks to adjust operational hours," he stated.

As known, the cooperation agreement between the Bekasi Administration and Jakarta government agreed such operational hours on protocol roads, starting at 9 PM-4 AM.

But the rules are often violated, thus Bekasi Transportation Department grounded 31 garbage trucks owned by Jakarta Cleanliness Department. These trucks are currently secured in Bekasi Sport Building (GOR).
