Nightly Entertainment Venues in Jakarta Must Be Closed During Ramadan

Jakarta Provincial Government constrained all nightly entertainment industries to be closed from one day before Ramadan until one day after Eid. Although, for karaoke and live music just can be operated from 8.30 P.M. to 01.30 A.M.

Every violation will be penalized in accordance with applicable law

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Dept. (Disparbud) Head, Catur Laswanto said, entertainment variety which must be closed are night club, discotic, sauna, carrom, pub or bar which an entire building itself or inside the night club.

"Billiard which is not in one room with night live, karaoke or not inside night club, its operation can be started from 10 A.M. to 12 P.M.," he said, Thursday (5/18).

If it is one room with live music and karaoke, then it could be operated from 8.30 P.M. to 01.30 A.M. But, if it is one room with night club, discotic, sauna, massage parlor, carrom, pub or bar either in entire building itself or inside night clubs, must be closed.

"For discotic which held in commercial area or at least four-star hotel, and also not adjoining with citizen settlement, worship house, school, and hospital, is excluded," he said

He explained that towards tourism business  inside star hotels has been enacted according to Jakarta Governor Provision no. 98/2004 article 2 paragraph (4) and (5) about tourism industry time operation.

Although the operational hour has been organized, industry variety such as billiard, karaoke, live music, and others obligated to be closed one day before Ramadan, first day of Ramadan, Nuzulul Quran's night, one day before Eid, first and second day of Eid, and one day after Eid.

Moreover, all nightly entertainment prohibited to install any billboard, poster, publication, and show film contains of pornography, porno action, and eroticism. Employees and visitors also forbidden to wear immodest clothing.

"Every violation will be penalized in accordance with applicable law," he affirmed.

Jakarta Disparbud's Tourism Industry Division Head, Androfa added that circular letter related to those things will be delivered to all nightly entertainment industries. While beginning of Ramadan stipulation will be waiting for government provision.

"As plan, we will deliver the circular letter this afternoon. We hope all nightly entertainment industries could obey it," he closed.
