Lembang Lake will Be Dredged Due to Sedimentation

Jakarta Provincial Government will dredge Lembang Lake in Menteng, Central Jakarta, due to sedimentation. According to plan, dredging will be started in August.

Jakarta Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat said, Lembang Lake condition is really poor. Not only sedimentation, but unpleasant smell also emitted from this lake at noon.

"Lembang Lake must be normalized soon. Because the water is shallow, it becomes smell and turbid," he said at City Hall, Tuesday (7/18).

Situ Lembang Park will Be Closed During Reservoir Dredging

Central Jakarta Mayor, Mangara Pardede said, previously Lembang Lake has been dredged in 2015. According to temporary calculation result, there is 8,014 cubic of mud sedimentation.

"Lembang Lake water level actually could reach 3.48 meters. But now it is just 1.3 meters. The rest has been covered by mud," he explained.

According to him, his side had conducted laboratory test towards Lembang Lake water quality. The result, its water is contained high ammonia and number of contaminant exceeds the normal level. Whereas, there are still 10 springs left.

"The test was conducted last April since hundreds of tilapia fish were found dead. Currently there are around 25 thousands tilapia fish in there," he expressed.

He added, Lembang Lake mud dredging is planned to start in August and takes 2 months (October) to be done.

"We hand it over to Water Resources Dept. Thus dredging process could be done using their own heavy equipments," he closed.
