City Prepared Minor Criminal Trial For Sidewalk Violator

Starting today, Jakarta Provincial Government holds Orderly Sidewalk Month program in five Jakarta regions up to one month ahead.

During this program, 500 joint personnel will control all street vendors, illegal parking vehicle, and bikers who violate the sidewalk function.

Jakarta Satpol PP head, Yani Wahyu Purwoko said, his side will act on every sidewalk violators with minor criminal trial (tipiring) to give deterrent effect.

500 Personnel Dispatched During Months of Orderly Sidewalk

"I already ordered Region Satpol PP Heads to coordinate with judiciary to prepare minor criminal trial in five regions," he said at City Hall, Tuesday (8/1).

Before holding a raid, he added that his side will approach persuasively towards street vendors who selling on the sidewalk. Personnel on the field is ordered to take away their goods if they are not heed the warnings.

"After we remind them and they are still not obeying it, we will take their goods and they will undergo minor trial," he affirmed.

His side collaborates with Jakarta Transportation Dept. (Dishub) and police to control vehicle parked on the sidewalk.

"We will involve Dishub. Thus illegal parking vehicle can be transported and trialed," he added.

Separately, Jakarta Legal Bureau's Documentation and Publication Section Head, Retnowati added, minor criminal trial for sidewalk violator is already regulated in Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 8/2007 about Public Order. For the implementation, Jakarta Satpol PP coordinates with police side.

"For implementation, it coordinates with police. This case is handled directly by Satpol PP as Perda enforcer," she closed.
