Council Supports Extension of Orderly Sidewalk in Jakarta

Jakarta DPRD is supporting Jakarta Provincial Government to extend the implementation of Months of Orderly Sidewalk. It will be taken to trigger public awareness to make sidewalks clean from street vendors (PKL) and illegal parking

To grow people awareness, bylaw sanction must be applied to give deterrent effect

Jakarta DPRD Commission A Chairman, Tubagus Arif disclosed, Jakarta Governor's policy to extend the orderly sidewalk from PKL, illegal building and illegal parking is very supported.

"Since it is applied, the officers managed to minimize the existence of PKL, illegal building and illegal parking on the sidewalk. Currently, people can use the sidewalk comfortably," he expressed, Wednesday (8/30).

Yet, he asserted, despite there is a progress, the policy that has been ongoing almost one month has yet to raise public awareness to discipline and do not take advantage of the sidewalk.

Another statement comes from Jakarta DPRD Commission A Member, Zainuddin. To make it more effective, he uttered, local RT/RW apparatuses need to be involved to optimize public order.

"To grow people awareness, bylaw sanction must be applied to give deterrent effect," he closed.
