City Council Urged City Government to Crack Down MEIS

The polemic of a business license absence pocketed by Mata Elang International Stadium (MEIS) located in Taman Impian Jaya Ancol (TIJA) got the attention of the City Council.

The representatives urged the Jakarta Provincial Government not to issue a permit and cancel various activities held by that business group.

City Council member, Prasetyo Edi Marsudi, said that the city government must be firm in cracking down MEIS. Decisive action needs to be done as a warning to other business groups in order to comply with the rules and obligations.

Basuki Admitted MEIS Building Does Not Have Permit

"To make they give up, do not give them concert permission. If the concert already would be held, so canceled it. It concerns the authority of the government as state officials," said PDI-P politician, Saturday (6/21).

Moreover, the information obtained from Marsudi, the venue will be a concert place for Korean boy band, Shinee on Sunday (6/22) today. At least 12 thousand fans are expected to pack the shows.

"If it is going to be held, the government can be said to remain disregarded offense. This is a bad precedent for officials," said Marsudi.

Marsudi also asked the Pamang Praja Force (Satpol PP)  to conduct on-site inspection especially regarding the evacuation route. Judging at the number of visitors who exploded, the existence of evacuation route is vital, so if there is a case for example fire, it would not cause casualties.

"It must be properly addressed. Do not be sorry later,” he uttered.

The same thing is also said by a member of City Council Commission A, William Yani. He said that the City Council does not preclude various activities of business groups especially that relating to the promotion of Jakarta as a service city such as world’s band and vocal group concert to perform in the capital city.

"The management should not justify a variety of ways. Several things must be considered especially with regard to the safety of visitors," Yani said.

Yani also acknowledged that most of the buildings in Jakarta neglect to fulfill the obligation to provide evacuation route.

"I will coordinate with Jakarta Department of Fire and Disaster Management (DPK-PB) and municipal police to check the entire building in Jakarta, whwther they have met the safety standards or not," he said.

Previously, Head of Public Relations Jakarta Police, Commissioner Rikwanto, explained that his party would not give permission to the concert organizer of MEIS Ancol, North Jakarta, as long as the company does not have a business place license pursuant to an Act Disorders (UUG).

"If one of the permission does not exist, then they must not hold a concert. It is a combined license, not individual," he explained.

Head of North Jakarta Pamong Praja Police, Partono also confirmed that his party has sent a warning letter to the manager in order to take care of MEIS permit in accordance with applicable rules.

"We've given time 7X24 hours. If  they do not response, we will coordinate with the team to seal the place," Partono completed.

Just to note, MEIS is known as performance venues of various events, such as music concerts. The building that is located in Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, North Jakarta, has the capacity of about 200 thousand people. A number of international artists that have performed at MEIS such as Alter Bridge, Dream Theater, Guns n Roses, Beyonce, and Jennifer Lopez.
