City Intensively Repairs Damaged Sidewalks

Besides controlling street vendors on the sidewalks, Jakarta Provincial Government is also intensively repairing the damaged sidewalks to create convenience for Jakarta residents.

Head of Road and Bridge Maintenance Division for Jakarta Public Works Department, Juani Yusuf disclosed his party is repairing damaged sidewalks along Jalan Mampang Prapatan, Duren Tiga (South Jakarta), Jalan Raden Inten (East Jakarta), as well as Jalan Panjang (West Jakarta)  

" In future, we'll repair 15 sidewalks, but it is still under auction process ," he expressed, Saturday (6/28).

On the other hands, he criticized a statement of Pedestrian Coalition Chief, Ahmad Syafrudin saying around 400 km or about 60 percent out of 7,000 km of roads in Jakarta have been equipped with sidewalk. "This statement is wrong, I think the amount reached 5,000-6,000 km. That means it doesn't different than the length of the existing road," he justified.

Yusuf admitted that sidewalk widening is not his main duties and functions. His party only serves to maintain the existing sidewalks in the city.

"I just focus on maintenance, instead of construction," he stressed.

He acknowledged the ideal amount of sidewalks in the capital is still little, other than on Jalan MH Thamrin-Sudirman , Ridwan Rais and Senayan. This is likely to be a concern to many people.

"Perhaps, the problem is the lack of ideal sidewalks. That's why it becomes the limelight by Pedestrian Coalition," he finished.
