Finland Embassy and Fortum Met Sandi

Delegates from the Embassy of Finland and Fortum met with Jakarta Deputy Governor, Sandiaga Uno, at Jakarta City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Thursday (12/14). 

The target is Sunter ITF will be operated within the next two years

In the meeting, those delegates came to conduct discussion about efforts to handle and utilize waste in Jakarta via Intermediate Treatment Facility (ITF) using waste to energy (WTE) technology.

As a Finnish company engaged in energy sector, Sandi assessed, Fortum has chosen Jakarta as the first city in Asia to start WTE-based waste processing business. Later on, Fortum will cooperate with PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) to build ITF in Sunter, North Jakarta.

"The target is Sunter ITF will be operated within the next two years," he stated, Thursday (12/14).

He asserted the land to be used already has legal proof of ownership and has no problematic. Thus, development projects can be done faster.

"This waste processing project includes Build-Own-Operate (BOO) cooperation. This cooperation with Fortum is established for 25-30 years," he told.

Meanwhile, PT Jakpro President Director, Satya Heragandhi uttered the thermal technology that will be used is the best in terms of integration.

"Garbage is burned at a temperature of 1,200-1,600 Celsius degrees and can produce 35 megawatts of electrical energy," he told.

The Sunter ITF has a waste capacity of 2,000-2,200 tons of waste per day or about 30 percent of the total waste generated by the city that reaches 7,000 tons.

"In fact, the garbage that had been troublesome could be the solution as a source of renewable energy," he said.
