Perez Overwhelmed in Controlling Car Rim Sellers on Jalan Cideng Timur

As known, the sidewalk on Jalan Cideng Timur, Petojo Selatan Urban Village, Gambir Sub-District, Central Jakarta, is occupied by street vendors selling car tires and rims. This condition is clearly harming the pedestrians because their pathway is taken.

They were given built landscape (lokbin) on empty lands around the location, but no more since these last five years

Unfortunately, the ranks of Gambir Sub-District admitted not yet able to dispel those street vendors who were ex Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade (KUMKMP) Department guided street vendors.

“They were given built landscape (lokbin) on empty lands around the location, but no more since these last five years,” said Head of Gambir Sub-District, Hendri Perez, to beritajakarta.com, Thursday (7/3).

Tire and Rim Vendors Rampant, Jalan Jatibaru Bogged Down

According to Perez, those car tires and rims sellers are mostly Petojo Selatan Urban Village origins. On that base, they are given toleration to sell as long as not occupying the whole sidewalk.

“So, the concept is we want to give space for them to sell on sidewalk as long as not covering pedestrian’s pathway. To control them completely, we cannot do it yet because of that factor I mentioned,” he stated.

Perez also explained that another reason his party cannot dispel those street vendors is due to the absence of relocation land for them. Moreover, land price in the capital city, particularly Central Jakarta, is very expensive.

Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta KUMKMP Department, Joko Kundaryo, stressed that his department no longer has responsibility over those car tires and rims sellers on Jalan Cideng Timur because their arrangement has been handed out to urban village and sub-district parties.

“It is in line with Governor Regulation No. 33/2010 on the arrangement of place and guidance to street vendors’ micro business in the capital city. We also cannot relocate street vendors who are not our guided street vendors because the relocation place is not enough,” he uttered.
