Tire and Rim Vendors Rampant, Jalan Jatibaru Bogged Down

Despite the officers have been intensively controlled the tire and rim vendors along Jalan Jatibaru, Cideng Urban Village, Tanah Abang Sub-District, Central Jakarta, the vendors still recklessly open stalls on the sidewalk. As a result, traffic congestion happened because many people parked their vehicles on roadside to buy tires and rims.

We’ve controlled them many times, but they always come back again

Daniel (27), one of the customers, told that the traders are persistent in selling on sidewalk on Jalan Jatibaru because many people are interested by the rims they sold. “Outside (in other locations), medium quality rim could be priced for Rp 5-7 million each. But there (on Jalan Jatibaru), the rims are sold for Rp 1-3 million each, depends on its smoothness,” he told, Sunday (6/8).

However, Daniel also admitted that indeed traffic congestion often happened on Jalan Jatibaru because many people parked their vehicles on roadside to buy the tires and rims. “Yes, they are violating (the rules). But due to (the goods sold are) cheap, there are always buyers. That what makes those vendors keep running their business,” he uttered.

Meanwhile, Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP, Yadi Rusmayadi, stressed that those tire and rim vendors have been repeatedly controlled, yet they always recklessly come back. “We’ve controlled them many times, but they always come back again,” he stated.

According to Rusmayadi, his party needs assistance from the public to overcome problems regarding street vendors, so they would not rampant anymore selling on the streets and sidewalks. “Besides officers, citizens must also contribute by not buying the goods there. Automatically, the street vendors would close down their business,” he uttered.
