Tourism Bureaus Expected to Build Inns in Seribu Islands

As reported before, high tourist visit to Seribu Islands is not balanced with the amount of inns in the regency. To resolve the matter, Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department will encourage tourism bureaus to build inns or home stays and give trainings on standard facilities given to tourists.

“We have given ease in licensing to those who want to build home stays, which is not government’s authority because it is business, business mechanism. We encourage the standards of good, clean, and healthy accommodation facilities, so the locals could enjoy benefits from it,” stated Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department, Arie Budhiman, Saturday (7/5).

Moreover, Budhiman advised to limit the amount of tourists visiting Seribu Islands in correlation with environment principles. He does not want the islands there overwhelmed with tourists due to limited capacities. So, the tourists must be spread.

Tourist Visit Increasing, Seribu Islands Lacking of Inns

“Environment principles must be paid into attention. Don’t let an island which already crowded leads to degradation, because Seribu Islands has many islands which have not been touched. Tourists must be distributed to those islands,” he said.

Based on Seribu Islands Regency Tourism and Culture Sub-Department data, in 2013 there were 1.25 million people visited the islands. While this year, as many as 894,488 local and foreign tourists have come until June. Among their favorite destination islands are Pari Island, Pramuka Island, Untung Jawa Island, Tidung Island, and Harapan Island.

At this time, there are 245 inns spread in Seribu Islands. In details, 136 inns in Tidung Island, 38 inns in Untung Jawa Island, 34 inns in Pari Island, 27 inns in Pramuka Island, and 10 inns in Harapan Island. Those inns can only accommodate 4,410 visitors per night.

According to Budhiman, increasing tourist visit to Seribu Islands happens because supported with good transportation to islands in that regency.
