Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) has recommended three priority policies toward Jakarta Provincial Government to overcome traffic congestion in the capital this year.
Last year, traffic jam problem was still dominated
Those policies are about the rerouting of public transportation trajectories, parking policies and public transport institutions.
FGD About Traffic Management Held Along Jalan Sudirman and MH Thamrin"Last year, traffic jam problem was still dominated. And this year, it would be the same due to rampant development," expressed Iskandar Abubakar, Chairman of DTKJ, Jati baru Technical Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday (1/25).
He assessed the city should immediately conduct a complete rerouting of public transport trajectory prior to operation of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) that is currently under construction.
"Don't await this project to operate. This year, there should be a rerouting before MRT and LRT operate in 2019," he uttered.
DTKJ Member, Ellen Tangkudung added, about parking policy, his party encouraged the city to implement short-term and medium-term programs.
She stated, short-term programs that need to be done is by intensifying illegal parking raid and arranging parking area, adding off-street parking areas, and park and ride.
While for long-term programs, she continued, DTKJ encouraged the city to apply high fines on parking offenders, high parking rates with zoning provisions and raise parking taxes of buildings.
"Actually the parking policy is the easiest, as all the rules have been supported, only the execution," he explained.
At the same time, another DTKJ member, Daryati Asrining suggested the city to adopt Seoul, South Korea that successfully combines all public transport companies in one element.
"They have Smart Card ticket whereby residents can use it for various modes of transportation," he stated.
