Bronjong Levee on Sunter Riverbank Constructed

A temporary levee using bronjong (rocks wrapped in plaited wires) is being made on Sunter Riverbank in Cipinang Muara area, Jatinegara, East Jakarta. It is purposed to anticipate inundation in Pondok Bambu Urban Village area, Duren Sawit Sub-district and in Cipinang Muara Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-district.

The levee is made, as the riverbank often overflows when it rains and floodwater from Bogor

Yoserizal, Section Head of Maintenance, East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept. said the levee would have 200 meters length with 1.5 meters height and 1 meter width. 

Bronjong Used to Handle Broken Levees

"The levee is made, as the riverbank often overflows when it rains and floodwater from Bogor. This is just temporary while awaiting direction of central government," he stated, Friday (1/26). 

The central government through Ciliwung-Cisadane Flood Control Office (BBWSCC) plans to install a sheet pile in the location. Its installation is still awaiting the completion of land acquisition conducted by Jakarta Provincial Government.

"The project has been ongoing since last week and is targeted to be done by the end of February," he told.
