Sandi Wants Jakarta Waters to Be Kept Clean

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Sandiaga Uno, revealed waters in the capital starting from the northern coast of Jakarta, Seribu Islands to Jakarta Bay must be kept clean. By so, existing ecosystems can be protected.

It's the potential and the blessing that we have to take care of

To keep the waters in Jakarta clean, it takes three concrete steps namely, collaboration, education, and action.

"Waters in Jakarta must be clean from garbage. It's the potential and the blessing that we have to take care of," he expressed, when he became a speaker in the panel discussion entitled "Answering Challenges: Jakarta Bay Clean, Who Dares?" at Jakarta Convention Center, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Thursday (3/8).

He explained, efforts to overcome garbage problem is a joint task of government, private sector and society. Therefore, education is required to the public and the business world to be embedded awareness of clean lifestyle and the ability to manage garbage properly.

"Garbage handling in Jakarta Bay will be the implementation of the concept of Public Private People Partnership (P4)," he stated.

According to him, Jakarta produces about 7,000 tons of garbage per day, including Seribu Islands. The amount accounts for four percent of national garbage production.

"There needs to be more action or movements involving the people, like Gerebek Sampah program," he stated. 

He hoped it is hoped that a comprehensive and concrete solution could be achieved as input for policy makers to solve garbage problem in Jakarta Bay.

"Jakarta wants to be a part to realize Indonesia Bersih Sampah 2020," he said.
