Water Channels Repair in Central Jakarta Accelerated

Rain that keeps pouring down erratically this month makes some roads in Central Jakarta inundated. As a result, local Water Management Public Works Sub-Department had to work extra to repair and normalize water channels.

“We’re currently repairing water channels simultaneously in eight sub-districts. Puddles handling is also done by normalizing or draining water channels, but it depends on the situation. If the water channels clogged, we open the clogs,” stated Head of Central Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Herning Wahyu Ningsih, Tuesday (7/15).
According to Ningsih, her department is also widening some water channels that are narrow because of silted. One of those water channels is located in front of TVRI building, Tanah Abang. Meanwhile, one of the water channels being repaired and normalized is the one on Jalan Raya Cikini, Menteng, which had been inundated 30 centimeters high some time ago.

Other water channels being repaired are located on Jalan Kebon Sirih, Jalan Anyer Menteng, Jalan Wahid Hasyim, Jalan Murday 1 Cempaka Putih, Jalan Rawa Sawah III Johar Baru, Jalan Salemba Tengah, Jalan Ahmad Yani, Jalan Angkasa Pelni Kemayoran, Jalan Pecenongan, Jalan Gunung Sahari Raya, and Jalan Karet Pasar Baru Timur,” she informed.
Ningsih stressed that her department is continuously doing handling through fast response. One of the efforts done is by following up reports on puddles from Water Management Task Force and City Police TMC.
