Basuki Appreciates ERP Trials

Acting Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama gives his appreciation on the implementation of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) on Tuesday (7/15) yesterday. To smoothen it, his side has filed double-decker buses as supporting facility.

We file the bus because I want to implement ERP system. The motorcyclists cannot pass through ERP lanes

"I received a report this morning, the ERP system can already work properly," he said, at City Hall, Wednesday (7/16).

Basuki disclosed his side will immediately file double-decker bus purchase. The bus will be used as supporting facility. "We file the bus because I want to implement ERP system. The motorcyclists cannot pass through ERP lanes," he expressed.

ERP Trial Causes Traffic Congestion

According to him, the system aims to parse traffic congestion and arrange vehicle volume. "We impose it as compensation, instead of looking for money, but only want to parse congestion. That's why we filed double-decker bus for free," he promised.

As planned, the city administration would purchase 50 double-decker buses via e-catalog to serve motorcyclist. "If you think the tariff is expensive, just park your car. We have provided double-decker bus," he exclaimed.

As for the ERP tariff, is predicted to reach Rp 300,000-Rp 100,000. It is conducted to burden motorcyclist thus they will switch to public transport. Basuki continued motorist cannot play dirty, considering there will be 40 ERP gates to capture vehicles entering from the middle. For those who do not have an On Board Unit (OBU) and desperate to get into the ERP lane, they will be sanctioned until revoking vehicle registration (STNK).

Marketing Director of PT Alitha Praya Mitra who is local partner from Sweden-based telematics company Kapsch TrafficComm, as technical implementer of ERP trials on Jalan Sudirman, Nia Djamhur said, the first day of ERP implementation was to find out the gantry connection with the back end system (the last system) can be integrated with the OBU installed in each vehicle.

He assessed during trials, such system able to detect any vehicle, license plate, and OBU. "Everything is going well. All vehicle, license plate, and OBU can be detected well. Alhamdulillah (thank God) the trials is successful," he expressed.

He acknowledged there are still many deficiencies found during trials yesterday. Among them are an image that is received in the control room was blur, as well as the system and camera cannot be able to read or capture the vehicle's license plate number. This is because, many license plates modified or deliberately bent and so on by vehicle owner.

"Vehicle license plate is recorded automatically, not manually. The important thing is how to record the license plate clearly. This is our challenge. Due to many license plate is modified. This condition is very aware by police and departments. As you know, license plate type is varied," he explained.
