Governor Wants Immunization Not to Be School Admission Requirement

We want all children to get education

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan will issue the new circular letter to replace the previous regulation of Circular Letter No. 37/SE/2018 issued by Education Dept. Head that regulates prospective students who want to register at kindergarten and school levels to fulfill immunization requirement.

"The previous circular letter will be revoked and replaced with a new one. Because the previous circular letter has varied meanings," he stated at City Hall, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jakarta, Monday (5/21).

Diphtheria Immunization Given to 50 Kindergarten Students

The first circular letter which has issued by Education Dept. Head contains of Technical Guide For New Students Admission (PPDB) 2018/2019. This letter explained that prospective students who want to register for kindergarten and elementary school are needed to have Immunization Card.

According to him, this letter needs to be explained more detail.Thus his side plans to explain it in more detail by issuing new circular letter through Education Dept. and Health Dept.

"We want all children to get education. For those who haven't immunized yet or don't have immunization card will get a form and it will be processed further by Health Dept.," he explained.

Even though immunization is not the main requirement for new student admission, he still wants students to have immunization first.

Jakarta Health Dept. Head, Koesmedi Priharto added, all this time his side received many question from residents related Immunization Card requirement for school admission.

"Through this new policy, we will continue to record the data and prioritize to fulfill children's need of immunization," he conveyed.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Education Dept. Head, Sopan Adriyanto said, more than 25 percent children have difficulties registering due to not completed Immunization Card.

"We want children in their compulsory school age still can get education in school. We will prioritize it while immunization can be proceed from Health Dept.," he mentioned.
