State Assets in City must Be Managed By Jakarta Govt, Basuki Says

To avoid pointing fingers to each other, Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama proposed all assets in the capital to be managed by Jakarta Provincial Government. The proposal was included in the revision of the Act No.29/2007 on the Jakarta government as Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

The central government must hand over all asset management to Jakarta government in order to avoid pointing fingers action

"The central government must hand over all asset management to Jakarta government in order to avoid pointing fingers action. Road repair for instance, where it happens between city and central government. As a result, until now, the repair has not been completed yet," stated Basuki when he led a meeting for revision of Act No. 29/2007 at City Hall, Tuesday (7/22).

PPD Asset Transferring Still Constrained

He disclosed that repair and maintenance of national roads can directly be managed by Jakarta Public Works Department. Likewise with normalization project, which everything is done by Jakarta government and has nothing to do with central government.

"That means, there would no longer national and city roads in future. All would become provincial roads due to its management has been managed by us. Likewise with river normalization, we will also manage it thus there are no more central or provincial rivers. All this time, we only focus on land acquisition, while river normalization carried out by Public Works Ministry," he expressed.

The man who popularly called as Ahok also proposed Jakarta government should also manage the historic buildings in Kota Tua, West Jakarta. "Most of the historic buildings in Kota Tua owned by the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) are not maintained well. Surely it becomes problem for Jakarta Tourism and Culture Department to arrange the Kota Tua," he uttered.

Another asset, he furthered, is public transport development in Jakarta, for instance; mass rapid transit (MRT) project assisted by central government with debt amounting to Rp 40 percent.

"PT MRT cannot build the MRT if they still have debt by 40 percent, and its construction only reaches Lebak Bulus. This is ridiculous. It's supposedly reaching Bogor or Depok if they get assistance from central government, thus traffic congestion from border areas can be parsed," he explained.
