Street Vendors in Monas Evicted

Central Jakarta Satpol PP personnel once again cracked down street vendors in the area of National Monument (Monas) park on Thursday (7/31). The raid is conducted because street vendors recklessly set up stalls and trade in such place which is a favorite recreational site in Jakarta. Unlike the previous raid, the personnel only evict them.

Monas Street Vendors Claimed Being Backed Up by Civil Servant

Head of Operational Section for Centrall Jakarta Satpol PP, Maruli Sijabat disclosed that raid against street vendors today is still conducted persuasively. Personnel only did blocking and evict them forcibly. "Our target is evicting vendors from Monas," he stressed, Thursday (7/31).

He stated, during raid, as many as 70 joint personnel of Satpol PP, Garnisun, and police deployed to the field. "If the vendors refuse to leave, we had to seize their wares," he expressed.

This time, his side is still giving tolerance to those vendors. However, on Saturday (8/2) later, the raid will be done repressively. "On Saturday, we will deploy 100 personnel in five municipalities," he asserted.

According to him, after raid process, the Monas technical management Unit (UPT) is asked to contribute in sterilizing Monas area from vendors.

Sijabat admitted the raid started at 9 AM-1.30 PM run safely and smoothly without protest. Nevertheless, personnel have seized one truck containing children toys. "Yesterday, we also seized three trucks and one cart," he finished.
