Eid ul Fitr holiday is utilized by Jakartans to visit recreational sites, including Marunda Beach at RW 07, Marunda Urban Village, Cilincing Sub-District, North Jakarta. Unfortunately, the beach is not equipped with adequate facilities.
Too bad the beach is dirty. There is no improvement since long ago. Even to go to toilet we’re having trouble
For information, since 2003 the Marunda Beach has been proposed to be arranged and equipped with adequate facilities. But until now, the condition of the beach which planned to be included in 12 tourism destinations in North Jakarta is still poor.
Among its poor facilities are the two entrance pathways, which are also residential streets for RT 03/07 residents, and another entrance of bamboo bridge at RT 06/07. As for toilets, bathrooms, and kid’s playground, these facilities are not available.
Seribu Islands Deserted, Recreational Sites Crowded“Too bad the beach is dirty. There is no improvement since long ago. Even to go to toilet we’re having trouble,” lamented Kote, one of Marunda Beach visitors, Friday (8/1).
According to Chief of RW 07 Marunda, Aman Bogor, the management of Marunda Beach is run by some locals without government’s interference.
“So, it is reasonable the beach has poor facilities and not clean. Whereas, since the first day of Eid, thousands of people have come here and the peak is predicted to be on upcoming Sunday (8/3).
Head of North Jakarta Tourism Sub-Department, Grace Mandagi, admitted that her department is not handling the beach.
“We don’t allocate budget nor repair the (beach’s) facility. We also haven’t understand yet the continuation of this public beach would be like,” she told.
Meanwhile, North Jakarta Mayor, Heru Budi Hartono, uttered that North Jakarta Administration has proposed for the Marunda Beach to undergo reclamation, protrude into the sea for about 10 meters, and equipped with supporting facilities.
“We have proposed it since 2003. But until now there is no respond yet from province level,” he stated.
To arrange the beach, Hartono explained that a total of Rp 20 billion is needed. The fund will be used to build facilities and other beach reclamation.
“About Rp 10 billion to attenuate the beach and sand-filling, while the rest is to build other facilities,” he said.
