Satpol PP: Tanah Abang Now Sterile from Street Vendors

After raiding street vendors in Monas on Saturday (8/2), today hundreds of Jakarta Satpol PP personnel are raiding street vendors in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta.

“Since this morning, the street vendors hawking their wares on the street have been controlled. You can check, that the streets in Tanah Abang are now sterile from street vendors,” stated Head of Jakarta Satpol PP, Kukuh Hadi Santoso, Sunday (8/3).

The raid runs smooth and safe without resistance from the street vendors. In this operation, Jakarta Satpol PP deployed 300 personnel who also got assistance from the police and TNI.

Street Vendors in Monas Evicted

According to Santoso, Jakarta Satpol PP holds the same operation simultaneously in five municipalities. Some of target operation locations are Cempaka Putih, Kali Besar, Senen Station sides, along Senen Station railways, Latuharhari, Istiqlal Mosque sides, Percetakan Negara, Kramat Raya, Pasar Baru, et cetera.

“The operation in five municipalities involved 50 Satpol PP personnel in each sub-district. We’re holding street vendors’ wares for a week and keeping them in our warehouse in Cakung, East Jakarta. After that, they can take their wares back as long as they promised will not return to sell on sidewalks again,” he uttered.
