Street Vendors’ Stalls Under ITC Roxy Flyover Demolished

Tens of street vendors’ stalls and illegal huts under ITC Roxy Flyover, Jalan KH Hasyim Ashari, Gambir, Central Jakarta, demolished by 50 Gambir Sub-District Satpol PP personnel and joint forces from Central Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Wednesday (7/30).

In accordance to Mr. Governor’s instruction, we clean the city from street vendors and illegal huts built on riverbank

Head of Gambir Sub-District, Henri Perez, told this operation is held in accordance to the request of Jakarta Governor who wants Jakarta to be sterile from street vendors and illegal huts during Eid ul Fitr.

“In accordance to Mr. Governor’s instruction, we clean the city from street vendors and illegal huts built on riverbank. Before doing this, we have warned the street vendors and illegal hut owners many times not to open business and build buildings there, but they ignored it,” he stated.

Hundreds of Street Vendors’ Stalls in North Jakarta Demolished

According to Perez, the operation runs smooth without resistance from the street vendors and illegal hut owners. As a result, tens of street vendors’ carriages and stalls are transported into three Satpol PP trucks, while debris of illegal huts demolished are transported into two trucks belong to Central Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department.

“Those buildings have violated Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order. They have disturbed traffic flows and ruined city’s scenery. That’s why we do this operation,” he uttered.

In addition, Perez disclosed that another operation will be held again tomorrow, Thursday (7/31). However, he refused to mention the targeted locations due to afraid of leakage.

“On July 31 we’ll hold another operation in other locations. About the locations, I cannot tell you yet,” he said.
