DKI Cooperates with ICLEI to Reduce GRK Emission

Jakarta Government cooperates with International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) to reduce greenhouse gas (GRK) emission by 30 percent in 2030.

Jakarta needs action plans and measurable targets to reduce GRK emission by 30 percent in 2030

ICLEI is an institution runs in global urban area development field which is focused on efforts to achieve ambitious climate action through low emissions development strategies.

Jakarta Deputy Governor in Spatial Planning and Environment, Oswar Muadzin Mungkasa stated, ICLEI develops City-Business Collaboration Accelerator (CiBiX) model that facilitates Jakarta Government in having discussion with business sector. Thus it can give suitable solutions and also supports regional strategy that already exists in energy sector.

City Commits to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2030

"CiBiX allows local government and the right solution providers to meet in workshop as an early collaboration phase," he conveyed, Thursday (12/13).

He explained, Jakarta Government has discussed with private sector that represents business and industry in energy efficiency and renewable energy fields on December 4, 2018.

"The main focus in that workshop is national and international companies role in providing technology innovations in energy, waste, and transportation sectors," he said.

According to him, this meeting also discussed about efforts to increase business actor participation as the main target in Ambitious City Promises (ACP) project.

"We want them to be an important part of stakeholder interaction in compiling and implementing those efforts," he continued.

He added, ACP project is planned to improve climate action by increasing local government capacity and residents involvement through low emission development strategies. Thus through ACP, local governments in Southeast Asia can adapt to comprehensive climate strategy, Promise of Seoul.

"Jakarta needs action plans and measurable targets to reduce GRK emission by 30 percent in 2030," he asserted.
